Stewart Schlazer attended Florida State University earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition and a Bachelor of Music Education graduating summa cum laude in 2008. Stewart earned his Master’s Degree at the American Band Directors College of Sam Houston State University in 2017. He has played in marching bands, concert bands, symphony orchestras, woodwind quintets, and Klezmer bands. He plays bassoon in the Pacific University Philharmonic.
During his 18 years of teaching, Stewart has taught all grade levels—Kindergarten through 12th grade, plus some college. He has taught a myriad of music courses besides band including general music, choir, electronic music, guitar, piano, percussion, and music appreciation. Stewart is the visual and performing arts department head, and currently teaches two symphonic bands, two jazz bands, marching band, percussion, beginning band, and often conducts the musical at Forest Grove High School in Forest Grove, Oregon. He has taught bassoon lessons, run sectionals, and was the co-founder of the Band Project for Pacific University. Stewart is a member of NAfME and OMEA and serves as the OMEA/OSAA State Solo Chair. He is eager to help improve music in Oregon!
