
Melissa Albert (she/her) is an accomplished K-12 music educator and soprano whose work bridges artistry and pedagogy across Oregon and Washington. Over the course of a distinguished 14-year career, she has cultivated dynamic and inclusive musical environments, teaching high school and middle school choir, K-8 general music, and music therapy within self-contained autism classrooms. She is the winner of the OSAA Coach of the Month award for April 2026.
She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching from Oregon State University, with specializations in music education and vocal performance. Melissa is currently in her ninth year as Choir Director at Reynolds High School, one of the largest high schools in Oregon where she leads a thriving choral program marked by artistic rigor and an inclusive, student-centered ethos.
A respected leader and mentor in the field, Melissa serves as Vice President of Oregon Music Education Association District 2 and contributes to the board of the Oregon chapter of American Choral Directors Association. She has led Reynolds soloists, and small and large ensembles to many state performances. As a performer, she has sung with multiple esteemed ensembles including Oregon Repertory Singers, The Seattle Esoterics, and currently sings with Northwest Vocal Arts.
Melissa’s work is deeply rooted in advocacy and community-building. She is passionately committed to creating choral spaces that honor and uplift individuals from diverse backgrounds, and she actively champions LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, women’s rights, and trans rights through both her teaching and leadership.
A six-year breast cancer survivor, Melissa brings resilience and perspective to her life and work. She resides in Portland with her partner, Josh, and 2 year old Bo.
