In July of 2021, JJ Sutton was appointed Executive Director of the Oregon Music Education Association. Prior to this post Mr. Sutton taught in the Grants Pass School District with a focus in beginning band. He has also taught in the Three Rivers, Beaverton, and Silverdale (WA) School Districts and is a Past President of the Northwest Association of Performing Arts.
After graduating from the University of Oregon Mr. Sutton worked for several financial institutions before returning to Eugene in 2004 to finish a second bachelor’s degree in the pursuit of teaching music in the classroom with an emphasis in student leadership.
As a representative of the Oregon Music Education Association at the state and national level, Mr. Sutton is extremely proud to work with OMEA’s Board of Control as they tirelessly support and advocate for each music educator and their students throughout Oregon’s schools.
Mr. Sutton holds degrees from the University of Oregon and Western Oregon University. He currently teaches beginning band part time in the Grants Pass School District. He is quite happily married to his wife Carolyn and adores his three daughters- Lucy, Wendy, and Annie.
