Portland Youth Philharmonic: Flames of Transformation
This concert is all about transformation, through music and through personal growth. Jessica Meyer’s Turbulent Flames brings raw energy and emotional depth. PYP is proud to be part of the national consortium that commissioned this bold new work, spotlighting a composer whose voice deserves far more recognition.
The program also features Leo Trajano, winner of the 2025 PYP Concerto Competition. A 17-year-old violinist from Hillsboro, Oregon, Leo is a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra and has distinguished himself for his expressive playing and technical poise. His musicianship and dedication embody the spirit of PYP’s training—developing young artists who bring passion, precision, and individuality to every performance. Leo will take center stage as soloist for Max Bruch‘s Scottish Fantasy.
Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 3, a cinematic and lyrical American masterpiece, returns to the PYP stage after many years. Hattner calls it “due for a comeback,” as it offers a stunning platform for the orchestra’s expressive range.
