Dave Matthys has been involved in music education for 46 years. Dave retired from Lake Oswego High School where he was the band director and district music coordinator. His concert and marching bands were recognized for their excellence and played at numerous OMEA State Music Conventions as well as the OSAA State Band Contest. Individual awards include OMEA’s John McManus Distinguished Teacher Award (2024), Outstanding Music Educator Award (National Federation of High Schools – 2015), and being the Oregon representative of 50 band directors who make a difference in the national publication School Band and Orchestra (2008). He has served on the Oregon Music Education Association Board, several committees with OSAA, is a past president of the Oregon Band Directors Association, and currently serves as the Chair for the OSAA State Band & Orchestra Contest. Besides being an active clinician and adjudicator, he enjoys cooking, traveling, photography, and is also a working actor seen in television, commercials and film.
