Cynthia Navarro, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chair

Cynthia Navarro is a bilingual educator in her 10th year as Director of Bands at Clear Creek Middle School in Gresham, Oregon. Throughout her time at CCMS, she has successfully expanded the band program to more accurately represent the demographics of the school as a whole. Cynthia attended Azusa Pacific University in California where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Bass Trombone Performance. Once in Oregon, she earned a Masters in Education at Portland State University and an Equity Certificate for School Leaders from Lewis & Clark University. Cynthia is continuing her education in racialized pedagogy this summer through The Center Consultancy and Western Oregon University. She is excited to bring her expertise to Clear Creek as they embark on their inaugural year of Gresham Barlow’s Dual Language Immersion program.

In addition to serving as Director of Bands, Cynthia also serves her school as a member of the equity team and as a team leader for electives. For the past few years, Cynthia has led district wide training centered on interrupting racism in the classroom. Through these positions, she strives to help dismantle structures in the education system that work against BIPOC bit by bit so that ALL of BIPOC families, students, and teachers are seen, heard, and supported.
