Description
We begin another year of change with the academic year of 2006/2007 the last for Portsmouth as a middle school. Last year, following 18 months of study which included surveys, visitations, reading and planning, we organized our school into small learning communities we called academies. This was done to support student learning through smaller groups of students working with fewer teachers. We anticipated that these smaller learning communities would result in greater student achievement which preliminary test results support.
