SUMMARY:NAfME Webinar: Sequencing Folk Dance Skills for All Students
DESCRIPTION:Successful folk dancing can teach a lot of skills but doesn’t magically happen in one lesson. This webinar will help teachers understand how to sequence folk dance skills from kindergarten to upper elementary\, including strategies for including special needs students. Learning objectives include how to explicitly teach partner skills\, how to introduce locomotor and non-locomotor movement in shared space\, how to build teamwork and social-emotional skills no matter the age\, and how to modify dances for different populations including students with little to no dance experience. We will use music of many different cultures to scaffold teaching skills while learning about music and movement from around the world. There will also be information on how to incorporate popular music and student-created dances. Folk dancing can teach so many musical and social skills\, and this webinar will demonstrate how to deliberately teach skills so that all students can be included in the fun!

SUMMARY:NAfME: Move It or Lose It- Joyful Movement Activities That Foster Classroom Community
DESCRIPTION:Movement is a powerful and engaging way to bring music concepts to life in the classroom. This webinar explores how simple movement activities can be used to quickly engage elementary students while reinforcing important musical skills. Participants will learn practical strategies for incorporating movement into the beginning of class to help students internalize musical elements such as tempo\, rhythm\, and dynamics. \nDesigned especially for elementary general music teachers\, this session demonstrates how movement-based learning supports active participation and helps students physically experience music. In addition to strengthening musical understanding\, these activities encourage collaboration through partner and group work\, helping to build a strong sense of classroom community. \nAttendees will leave with a collection of quick\, easy-to-implement movement activities that require little to no preparation and can be used as engaging warm-ups or transitions. These strategies are especially helpful for teachers looking to increase student focus\, energy\, and participation at the start of a lesson.

SUMMARY:NAfME Webinar: More Than a Rehearsal- A Music Teacher’s Guide to Acing Observations
DESCRIPTION:What does a strong music lesson look like through an administrator’s eyes? In this dynamic session\, Kamil Cooper and Principal Troy Cato bridge the gap between rehearsal-based instruction and formal teacher evaluations. Using the ADEPT model as a framework\, they will guide music educators through designing and delivering lessons that meet (and exceed) observation expectations—without abandoning the core of what makes music classrooms special. Learn how to structure your teaching\, highlight student learning\, and document progress in ways that resonate with administrators. Whether you teach band\, choir\, or general music\, you’ll leave with ready-to-use tools and strategies to turn your everyday rehearsals into high-impact\, observation-ready instruction.
